Cultivate a mindfulness practice

You may have heard about the benefits of mindfulness and MBSR (Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction) to reduce stress and increase resilience in daily life. As the most researched, scientifically - backed empirical form of non-traditional western healing, mindfulness is being integrated into a wide variety of settings such as healthcare, K-12 schools, corporate workplaces, professional sports teams, governmental agencies, the military, and even prisons.

The benefits of bringing a mindfulness practice into all areas of one's life have been recognized and supported as a key modality for overall mental health and well being. The data and research are supporting what millions of people already know: that being more present and aware in one's life allows us to see the beauty and the challenges of daily life as they arise in the moment. In turn, mindful awareness helps us appreciate the positives and respond intentionally and with grace to the difficulties that we face.

In 1979 Jon Kabat-Zin created the Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program upon his foundational definition of mindfulness - "Mindfulness is awareness that arises through paying attention on purpose, in the present moment, non - judgementally.”

Being mindful helps to:

  • Become more present and aware in all aspects of our lives.

  • Reduce stress, anxiety, and "dis-ease".

  • Reduce the "auto-pilot" cycle of mind and negative habitual reactivity in stressful situations and in turn respond creatively- when it is called for.

  • Enhanced attention, concentration, and connection in interpersonal communication.

  • Develop a consistent practice of physical and mental self care.

  • Experience more happiness and equanimity in everyday life.

"As long as you are breathing, there is more right with you than wrong with you".

A gentle reminder to ourselves that something as simple and intrinsic as your breath can be our anchor, bringing us to back to a center of attention and awareness. Reminding us yet again that each moment is a precious one, if we only take the time to become aware of it.
